The Mavra Volia beach is located in the southern part of the island, 5 km from Pirgi. It is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan beaches of the island, while an attraction as large black pebbles resulted from the explosion of a volcano that is next in the prehistoric. The waters are crystal clear. It is also deeply dark blue color because of the black pebbles. Also there are rooms, cafes and taverns offering fresh seafood.
Piraeus, the biggest port of Greece is a connection point to Chios. There are daily ferries from Hellenic seaways and Blue Star connecting the bigest Greek port, Piraeus port with port of Chios and four times a week with the Port of Mesta at the south part of the island. Journey can be up to 8 hours *almost an hour less if arrives at Mesta) and usualy flights overnight, leaving Piraeus port between 8 to 9 p.m., arriving Chios early next morning.
